This announcement came on Saturday from the nation’s president, Isaac Herzog. LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall is speaking with Prof. Alon Burstein from the @Israel-Palestine-Report as the world of politics begins to wonder how President Donald Trump might react to the news that Israel could have a new leader.

Netanyahu, the country’s longest-serving prime minister, has pitched a unity government between his party and Eisenkot’s supporters. In a video he released prior to Herzog’s announcement, the prime minister tried to prevent his rival from making a deal that would bring one of the Arab-led parties, which had strong showings in the elections, into the government.
