What is behind the alliance between President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), and what are the ramifications for the U.S., Saudi Arabia and the Middle East as a whole?

Answers unfold in “The Crown Prince & the President,” the latest documentary from an award-winning team that includes directors, writers and producers Martin Smith and Marcela Gaviria, and co-producers Scott Anger and Jennifer Brooks.

“‘The Crown Prince & the President’ is based on over 100 interviews I have done in the U.S. and abroad,” says Smith, who also serves as correspondent and has covered the U.S.-Saudi relationship for more than 20 years. “Our investigation is an incisive look at the forces binding the two men and their countries together, and what each stands to gain — from ambitions for a new Middle East, to arms deals, investments and personal profit.”

Over the course of the documentary, that story is told with insights from former U.S. officials and diplomats, members of the Saudi government, Trump administration insiders, Saudi dissidents, human rights and foreign policy experts, and journalists who have covered financial ties between the Trump family and Saudi Arabia.

What emerges is a sharp chronicle of how the alliance between the crown prince who promised reform and the Trump administration has grown, despite MBS’ crackdown on dissent and the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, in which MBS denied involvement.

The documentary also offers a powerful examination of the Trump administration’s foreign policy strategy for Saudi Arabia, and the implications for the surrounding region, the U.S. and the world.

The country has struggled with long-running economic stagnation, marked by weak GDP growth, persistent deflation, and a weak yen. But there are recent signs of revival. The Nikkei has hit record highs, and wages are rising.

The catalyst is the landslide election victory of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who has championed “Sanaenomics”—a mix of proactive fiscal spending, structural reforms, and stimulus to boost growth.

Yet internal and external headwinds could stall this economic momentum.

The public, particularly the young, have pinned their hopes for an economic revival on the new government. Will Prime Minister Takaichi’s decisive mandate translate into a new era of growth, or will these signs of life sputter out?

In the weeks since the U.S. and Israel began bombarding Iran, President Trump has repeatedly justified the strikes by claiming Iran had posed an imminent nuclear threat. But nine months earlier, in the wake of U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran in June 2025, the message coming from Washington was that Iran’s key nuclear facilities had been “obliterated.”

Drawing on new reporting, satellite imagery analysis and interviews, this investigation is an updated presentation of our December 2025 documentary by the same name.

In September of last year, directors Adam Desiderio and Sebastian Walker, who is also the film’s correspondent, visited sites hit in the June 2025 U.S.-Israeli strikes and sat down with one of Iran’s most powerful officials, Ali Larijani — in what turned out to be the last on-camera interview he gave to an American news outlet before his assassination earlier this month in an Israeli airstrike.

Since the current war began, the team has been talking to experts and officials and analyzing satellite imagery with The Washington Post, Bellingcat and Evident Media to try to understand the truth about what remains of Iran’s nuclear program.

Their findings offer valuable insights into a continuing conflict that has rippled across the Middle East, killing thousands — including children at an elementary school — and displacing millions.

Greece is one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations – more than 30 million visitors travel there every year. But extraordinarily, Greece itself is in danger of running out of Greeks.The population is in freefall with predictions it will drop by twenty percent by 2050.

On Foreign Correspondent reporter Rhiannon Shine travels to the birthplace of her grandparents to see the problem first hand. Right across the country, ghost towns are becoming all too common.

There are far more deaths than births, young people have left in droves and migration is deeply unpopular. If modern Greece can't solve its population problem, it's at risk of joining its ancient ancestors as a living museum.
