Flow of Spiritual Power | Willamette Valley Oregon Temple Dedication

The newly dedicated Willamette Valley Oregon Temple is a connection between heaven and earth for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said President Dieter F. Uchtdorf.

The acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles sees parallels between temple blessings and “the wonderful Willamette River flowing quietly but strongly just in the neighborhood of this temple.”

He said that “it is like the flow of spiritual power which comes from this temple and goes into the community.” President Uchtdorf dedicated the Church’s 219th house of the Lord on Sunday, June 7.

In this Church News video, titled “Flow of Spiritual Power,” President Uchtdorf testifies that “Jesus Christ is at the center of this house of the Lord.”

The Morehouse and Spelman College Glee Clubs welcomed The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square for a special concert at the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel on the Morehouse campus in Atlanta on Monday, September 9, 2024.

This concert marked the second time that the Choir and the glee clubs have come together in celebration of the power and joy of music. In October 2023, the Choir hosted the glee clubs in Salt Lake City, where the groups performed on the Choir’s weekly broadcast of “Music & the Spoken Word.”

“This friendship just gets stronger, and you could see it today,” said Choir President Michael O. Leavitt. “When the Spelman Glee Club came [into the auditorium], there was this sense of spontaneous applause among the sisters who were in the Choir. And you could see that was the result of bonding that occurred when they were together.”

He continued, “I think this is just another step in an emerging, ongoing friendship that will have great value both to these colleges and to the Tabernacle Choir and the world.”

As the United States prepares to commemorate its 250th anniversary, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is collaborating with America250 in recognition of the freedoms established through the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

America250 is a nonpartisan congressional commission working to engage every American in celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Church will collaborate on initiatives focused on service, family history and music.

Today, the Church offered a prelude of its participation in the celebration by sending the first of 250 semitrucks, specifically designated to the America250 celebration, delivering food donations to 250 food banks across all 50 states.
