California Senator SWITCHES PARTIES from Democrat to Republican (Exclusive Interview)

EXCLUSIVE: California Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil is SWITCHING PARTIES from Democrat to Republican. She's giving her first interview to "The Issue Is: with Elex Michaelson."

"Seeing how the inner workings of the majority party work in Sacramento, I have to step back & say is this good?...My answer is no," she said.

"The reality is, in California, we have seen the pendulum swing so far in the areas of crime, homelessness...and public education."

She is losing her chair in the human services committee & she admits "there may be other repercussions..."

Sen. Alvarado-Gil is the first CA Senator to switch from Democrat to Republican in the middle of a term.

She was elected in 2022 as a Democrat & will run in 2026 as a Republican.

Her district, which is mostly made up of Republicans, is in California's Sierra & Central Valley.

"I am going to stay a Republican until I am put in the ground," she joked. "I'm committed to this."

That being said, Sen. Alvarado-Gil wouldn't say whether she'd support Kamala Harris or Donald Trump in the presidential race.
