Hegseth meets with Japanese Defense Minister in Tokyo

We have additional coverage this evening as members of the Trump administration travel through Asia. This time, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is meeting with new Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi and holding a news conference in Tokyo. This meeting comes after President Trump spoke with US soldiers aboard the USS George Washington in Japan.

New Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, sharing a stage with Trump on the USS George Washington, said Japan was "committed to fundamentally reinforcing its defense capability" and "ready to contribute even more proactively to peace and stability in the region."
