In his second term, American President Donald Trump has made immigration a key issue. Soon after his return to office, he issued several executive orders to clamp down on flows of undocumented migrants and asylum seekers. Other groups have also been caught in the anti-immigration dragnet. In April, over 1000 international students found their visas revoked. There are stories of legal migrant workers being barred re-entry into the US after travelling out of the country.

China and India are the top sources of international students and skilled workers to the US. Other Asian economies are also major source countries.
