Female Army officer reacts to Secretary Pete Hegseth's address to military leaders

When Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth called a meeting with all the top U.S. military leaders, many who wear uniforms felt uneasy.

Master Sgt. Jennifer Holder serves in the U.S. Army Reserves 86th Training Command. As a non-commissioned officer, or NCO, she ensures soldiers going through training exercises have all the support they need. Her 18-year military career also includes many years working in civil affairs. She's been deployed to Europe twice to serve in support roles.

Now, some of Hegseth's comments from his rare military gathering this week are sticking with Holder.

Holder says over the years, regulations and guidelines have helped leaders better understand how to lead women more seamlessly along with men. While women in the military still face barriers, she says those barriers may be different than what she faced coming into the field 18 years ago.

But after Hegseth's remarks, Holder says she is trying to comprehend the new direction of the military.

Holder makes it clear she views the comments from Hegseth and President Donald Trump as positive intentions. Holder says she supports the United States military wholeheartedly and loves serving.
