Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders from across the expanded BRICS grouping gather in New Delhi ahead of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.

This compilation brings together key arrivals, meetings and moments from the summit build-up, including Putin’s arrival in India, his meetings with Modi, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and the arrival of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other BRICS leaders.

Putin and Modi held talks on the eve of the summit, discussing India-Russia cooperation including energy and defence, as well as conflicts in West Asia and the Black Sea and their impact on maritime trade. Modi also presented Putin with a Russian-language copy of the ancient Tamil text Thirukkural.

The 2026 BRICS summit is being hosted by India in New Delhi on September 12–13. The expanded group has 11 full members and represents around 49.5% of the world's population, around 40% of global GDP and about 26% of global trade, according to India's Ministry of External Affairs.

The summit comes as BRICS faces major geopolitical challenges, including the war involving Iran, the war in Ukraine, tensions between the United States and China, disrupted energy and maritime trade, and debates over global economic and financial governance.
