The US just deployed a space weapon. Why? | BBC News

The US has admitted, for the first time, that it deployed a space weapon in Earth's orbit.

It said the weapon was necessary to safeguard US forces against hostile enemy action, but didn't elaborate on the weapon's capabilities or when it was put into orbit.
