Shady Maple is known as the world’s largest smorgasbord — but does bigger always mean better? Just down the road in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, there’s a cozy family-owned spot that’s been holding its own since 1993: Dienner’s Country Restaurant.

This smaller, homestyle buffet may close shockingly early (dinner ends at 6 PM most nights, 7 PM on Fridays), but it delivers authentic PA Dutch cooking that rivals any smorgasbord in Lancaster. Favorites include rotisserie chicken, buttered noodles, beef & gravy, chow chow, fresh vegetables, and a full dessert bar with shoofly pie, pumpkin treats, pecan pie, and soft-serve ice cream.

At just $18–19 for dinner, Dienner’s offers unbeatable value. Where Shady Maple can feel overwhelming, Dienner’s is cozy, comfortable, and feels like Sunday dinner at grandma’s table.

So… could this little Lancaster buffet really beat the colossal smorgasbord? Watch and decide for yourself.
