The USS Ted Stevens (DDG-128), the U.S. Navy's newest Flight III Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, is preparing to enter active service. Packed with the next-generation AN/SPY-6(V)1 radar and the latest Aegis combat system, it's the most advanced destroyer the Navy has ever built.

This video breaks down exactly what makes this $2.5 billion warship different from every Arleigh Burke that came before it: a radar that can detect threats at more than double the range of older systems, a combat system built to track dozens of targets at once, a 96-cell vertical launch system capable of firing everything from long-range air defense missiles to Tomahawk cruise missiles, and the years-long journey from keel-laying to commissioning that brought it here.

We also cover the destroyer's price tag, how it fits into the Navy's larger 75-ship Arleigh Burke fleet, and which Flight III destroyers are coming next.
